I didn't know where to put this thread so I'm doing in West Coast since that's where I am.
Have any of you encountered people who were afraid to race you because of something they'd heard about your model of car? Not just your car in particular but the make and model as a whole. You know how it goes, people hear or read things about certain types of cars and get it in their heads that these cars are the fastest things around and impossible to beat type deal. I've run into this pretty often and it always makes me laugh because almost every person I've come across who was afraid to run me would have killed me but they'd heard some outrageous BS about my truck.
I drive a 1993 GMC Typhoon which is pretty quick but by no means impossible to beat. I've run into three guys in the last year that refused to run me because they thought I'd demolish them when in actuallity it would have been the other way around.
I came out of this club in Seattle one night to find four guys standing behind my truck talking about it. They were in the Porsche Cayman S and Lotus Exige that were parked next to me. I asked them if they wanted to run and got a "Hell no, I've heard of those things" from the guy in the Lotus and a simple no from the Porsche driver. I knew both of them would have handed me my ass if they'd have lined up but I just wanted the thrill of the race. Clearly they'd heard or read something about Typhoon's that made them think it was quicker than their cars when in reality it isn't.
Again at a gas station in Renton, WA I was fueling next to a late model Turbo
Supra. Don't know exactly what mods he had other than an after market IC, exhaust and rims but I figure just looking at how clean it was inside and out there was a little money in it. I asked him if he'd consider running me and he gives me "Nah man, I'm not fallin for that shit" like I was trying to trick him into somethin. Again I'm thinking even if his ride was bone stock he'd probably have beaten me in the quarter if not to 60.
So in short, have any of you had people refuse to race you because of some absurd stuff they'd read or heard about your ride?
