Alright, summer is here so I decided to get some work done on the cobra. I took it to get a fresh tune. Killed off my peak hp down to 490rwhp but I gained about 30hp in the mid range so I definately have much more usable horsepower now.
I also pulled the independant rear suspension which had 3.55 gears and installed a straight rear axle with 4.10 gears. Lost about 200lbs of weight and gained better acceleration with the higher gear ratio. I also installed a more free flowing catback exhaust (loud and proud).
So this afternoon we are sitting at a light, as I am selling my wife on spending a crap load of money on my toy. A yamaha R6 rolls up to the line and revs once. He probably was changing gears, getting ready to take off when the light turns green.
Fuck it - I reved back. The guy on the bike looks over at me, smiles and puts his visor down. Light turns green and we roll. We line up at about 20mph and I punch it as does he. To my surprise, I am ahead of him by a fender throughout the bottom of 3rd gear and I miss shift 4th. Crap! He takes the win.
As we pull up to the next light, he says " damn that thing is fast" I respond back, "yea, nothing like 500 hp at your feet"
The light turns green and we launch it from a dig as I start walking him. By the end of 3rd we were running out of room so we call it a race.
I look over at my wife and she is smiling at me, feeling the rush of the race and the feel of victory. Needless to say, I didnt hear any more complaints about money spent on modding the cobra.
