Ford Vs Chevy 2004

Since u guys are wanting more....

Last year I had the opportunity to run in the annual ford vs chevy shootout at Sac Speedway. The cobra was basically bone stock and with the the temperature around 95 degrees, I wasnt expecting any good numbers.

We had 20 fords vs 20 chevys. We did a couple of preliminary runs and I was running 13.4 - 13.7s at 102-105mph at the traps. Something was off. Granted it was hot out, I was expecting about 108-111mph traps...something was amiss. After a poor 13.8 at 101mph, I finally parked the car and popped the hood. To my disbelief my air filter element had unbolted from my MAF. I quickly bolted it back together and got did one more run at 13.3/109mph. With this number, the chevy guys put me up against a beautiful IROC Z, that had been running low 13s all day.

By the time it came to our official race, the track had cooled down a bit so I was feeling good. So we line up at the tree and with my stomach churning because of nerves, i lag at the line. The IROC outtrees me as I start wheelhoping thru 1st. Skirt thru second and Im starting to reel him in. Third gear, I am taking his door and by the end of the run Im overtook him.

To my surprise, his win light is on and not mine! When we got our slips, I had done a 13.0 to his 13.1 but since he got the jump at the tree, he won the race. Being a sport the guy asked if I wanted to run him again and do a best of 3 series, but I declined...a loss is a loss. All in all, an exciting race and a great conclusion to an otherwise crappy day at the race track.
