So last night, Jackie IM's me to say that there's been a "drag racing crash" on the 11pm news. I headed out to the location and got there about 1.5 hrs after the fact and shot some pictures while the La Mesa PD surveyed the site and did their investigation. The word I got was that three people were seriously injured, with "fatalities imminent" according to one of the police officers I happen to know that was there to help out with the investigation. This looks like it might turn into a second degree murder charge for the drivers involved if it can be proven that they were racing (and assuming that the driver of the blue car survives his injuries).

Anyway, here's the pictures. The blue honda was allegedly one of the racers. The red car was a bystander who got hit. The crash was very, very violent - although the marks on the passenger door of the Honda were made by an extraction tool, it looks like the driver's door was torn open in the collision. The Honda was apparently on bags, since an air tank was thrown from the trunk and ended up in the gutter. The police were referring to it as a nitrous tank, but I didn't get a good enough look at it on-scene to correct them. The red car's trunk also flew open, and a box that was full of paperback books came out and the books were scattered all over the street.
