Anyone that has been around the fourth gen f-bodies knows that the rears are very week. As my car increases in power I worry about the poor little stock rear more and more. There are only a couple options for us fourth gen f-body guys/girls and most of them run $2200-2500. I don't want to put out that kind of coin right now.
There are a couple people that are taking the stock 10bolt axle tubes, cutting them off and welding them up to a ford 8.8 inch rear (Traction control option is a 4 channel ABS, and this is what is in my car). The axle tubes of the 10 bolt fit snugly in to the 8.8 tubes. Then the only thing that need to be done it a torque arm mount has to be made and welded to the pumpkin. I have the build of the rear case covered. On to my questions regarding the internals on a 8.8.
I know I need custom axles (31 spiline with GM bolt configuration) Looking at Moser axles (Aprox $350)
I was looking at a 31 spline Ford Track Lock. Is this good, bad?? Is it worth $175? (Bought)
I'm gonna go 4.10's because I am a 6 speed. I have seen Motive ring/pinion gears new for about $150. Is this decent? (Bought)
Bearings / seals about $75 (Bought)
Studded rear cover for about $125 (looking for one)
Rear case $100-125 (looking for one)
Total rear aprox $1000-1200 in parts..
Am I missing anything? Should I stay clear of anything in peticular? Thanks in advance..
