This is why I f'ing hate CARB. If it wasn't for their classification of diesel emissions with gasser emissions Toyota could throw their revised 2.2l D-4D engine in there...
180hp @ 3400rpm, 300ft/lbs tq @1800rpm, 50-70mpg, I bet it could be flashed up to 250hp/400tq. That would be a nice grocery getter.
