i can vouche for the solobarics, i had own 2 12" l7's powered with an 1500wrms amp and they wanged. i had them in some ported box and they got very very loud. i eventually sold them though.

are you trying to find subs that will hit hard and be heard? kicker solobarics get that job done. i really dont think the kicker solobaric is more high end than the alpine type-r subs...they both have different potential. alpine type-r is more of an SQL (sound quality and spl) sub whereas the solobaric lineup is more of SPL and getting loud.

what kind of budget are you working with?
