You know, I do agree.
Taking a 9 second car through the quarter isn't the easiest thing to do. I bow down to that. But lets take a second and slow down for nubcakes like me here. I don't own a 9 second car, and it's much easier for me to step on the gas and go forward in my little s13 than to drift it around a corner. (I don't have a s13, before I become another one of those look at me i have a cool car people)
But yeah, after reading your post I do somewhat understand why drifting is some show. But i'd still like to argue my point that it isn't merely JUST for show.
