in my experience, hitting the apex of a turn and exiting wide and fast will provide the highest exit speed. if you take that same turn drifting, you will end up taking the turn too wide or cut the corner and exit at a slower speed. there are certain situations where i have drifted into a turn sideways and had a better exit angle because of that. usually if you have your car sideways too much you will end up overheating and killing your tires.
