Charges like that can ruin someone's life. The charge, the legal efforts, the trial, and the stigma can really wreck someone. There's a lot that someone can lose just to have the formality of a charge placed upon them by association just so that a jury can make a judgment. I despise the mentality of this world that we live in where someone else always has to be at fault.
