I doubt that they're illegal, however there are other things to consider. After a while, your mph or other needles may stick because the quality on most glow gauges is pretty bad. I remember installing some on my car 5 yrs. ago and having all kinds of problems with them. I spent 1 month driving around with my center console getting them off.
