Depends on the definition of "clean title". I usually think of a title as being clean if it is up to date, has no outstaning fines or delinquencies on it, and no liens. If it is a salvage, but all of the above held true, they may also have believed that it was "clean". Just because a car is a salvage doesn't mean it is illegal. However, the title does have to declare a vehicle as a salvage if it is. But, it sounds like when it was checked, it came back listed as a salvage. You may not have anything illegal going on, but you may have civil grounds to go after the dealership for non-disclosure. Talk to an attorney.
