Hmmmm...

Here's a part of an e-mail I got from the Fremont Chief of Police, where he forwarded some info written by none other than the import hater himself, Officer John Rosette...

"In regards to the Altezza lights, yes they were introduced by Toyota and put on the Lexus I 300. They conformed to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), as well as the new Ford taillights for the Lightning Pick-up. However a aftermarket company named (APC) American Products Co. introduced a similar taillight. These taillights are manufactured in China. The manufacturer put DOT (Dept. of Transportation) approved stickers, but the lights were never tested. APC which distributed these taillights sold them as 100% street legal. However NHTSA & DOT did test these lights and found that they didn't meet the lighting requirements set forth in the Federal Code of Violations. The taillights when lit look pink and not red. Not to mention the required red reflectors that were omitted."
