Rule #1: Don't believe anything that a manufacturer tells you about the legality of their parts unless you personally verify it by reading the laws that apply to that part in the vehicle code.
That said, I can't think of anything that would make those lamps illegal if you can't see the bulb itself. Somebody help me out though: Didn't those things go out of style like 5 years ago?
