A prudent officer leaves his/her work behind when he/she takes off their uniform and heads home. Unfortunately, there are times when circumstances are dangerous or reckless enough that an officer feels compelled to take some sort of action while off duty.
This action can come in many forms and it can be totally unknown to a person that their crime is being witnessed by an officer. Often times, the offending person won't know anything is up until a warrant is issued for their arrest or the police knock on their door at home, work or school hours or even days later.
While an officer may lose the legal obligation to enforce the law when they go off duty, they do not lose the ability to do so.
Drive safe,
