RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA
Largest Purse in U.S. Drifting History for Road & Track U.S. Sports Car
Invitational

MONTEREY, Calif. (April 15, 2004) - History will be made at the third annual
Road & Track U.S. Sports Car Invitational (April 30 - May 2) when the
fastest growing form of motorsport meets one of the most famous racing
venues in the richest drifting event in U.S. history - the $10,000
winner-take-all International Drifting Shoot-Out, sponsored by Mazda and
Yokohama Tire Corporation.

The sport of drifting began around the mid-1960s on windy, mountain roads in
the Nagano area of Japan.  Today's version of the sport involves drivers
intentionally and skillfully putting their cars into a controlled slide (or
drift) at high speed through a marked course.

Competition is done bracket or drag-racing style, with drivers competing
one-on-one, round-by-round, until a champion is determined.  Drivers are
judged on execution and style, as well as speed through the corners.

With the sport's roots in Japan, the majority of drift cars are from
Japanese manufacturers such as Mazda, Nissan and Toyota, but modern American
muscle cars are starting to make inroads.

Team RMR's Rhys Millen, of Newport Beach, will drift an American muscle car
icon - the brand new Pontiac GTO.  Millen, the son of world-renown rally
driver and the current Pikes Peak Hill Climb record holder Rod Millen, is
himself a six-time Pikes Peak champion.

Another American muscle car will be in the hands of Samuel Hubinette
(pronounced who-bin-ET) who recently signed to drive the 500 hp Team
Mopar/Lateral G Dodge Viper.  The native of Sweden, now residing in Tustin,
is considered by many to be the top drifter in the United States.

Bryan Norris and Ryan Hampton, both of Downey, are racing for Team JIC.
Norris is entering a supercharged Nissan 350Z, while Hampton is drifting a
Mazda RX-8 Turbo.

Team Rotora has a pair of entries for City of Industry residents Ernie
Fixmer and Ken Gushi.  Fixmer is driving a right-hand drive Nissan 180SX.
Gushi, the youngest competing driver in D1 Grand Prix (the world
championship for drifting) history, is piloting a Nissan 240SX Coupe.

Other single-car teams include El Segundo's Rich Rutherford in his Team
Kengai/IGN Nissan 240SX, Pacific Rim Drift is entering Daijiro Yoshihara and
his Nissan Silvia PS13, Team RS-R is fielding Carson's Kazu Hayashia and his
Nissan Silvia S14 and Chris Forsberg and his Nissan 350Z are entered by
Motorex.

The competitors will stage on the front straight, then drift through Turn 2
(Andretti Hairpin) and Turn 3, making the hillside outside of Turns 1 & 2 an
ideal place for spectator viewing.

A special drifting participant party is being held on Friday, April 30, from
8:00 - 10:00 p.m., at Club Octane in downtown Monterey.  Drifting cars will
be on display and drivers will be on hand to meet the fans.  Club Octane is
offering free admission until 10:00 p.m.

In addition to the International Drifting Shoot-Out, the Road & Track
magazine-sponsored U.S. Sports Car Invitational features Historic Stock
Cars, including famous Winston Cup-era stock cars such as Dale Earnhardt's
GM Goodwrench Chevy, Richard Petty's STP Pontiac and Jeff Gordon's DuPont
Chevy.  Formula Ford Zetec Championship, Mazdaspeed Miata Cup, Porsche Club
of America and World Superkarts, featuring grand prix motorcycle champions
Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson, round out the weekend racing action.
