Drift Showoff 2003 was the sickest drift event ever held. The top drifters from Japan were drifting so close to the crowd the crowd was touching the cars.

So i'm peeping some old stuff and came across the tape for the first drift showoff ever. Now keep in mind this was back in 2003. There was a few small exhibtions with japanese drivers but this one took the cake. At the time we could drive at these events. I had my 944 which you will see in the first part of the video. We got the car ready and then drove down south to Irwindale. After spending the night we all got to the track around 7 am for the drivers meet. The drivers meet was held on a rooftop of one of the buildings. Kind of a weird place but we could see the whole parking lot where we were going to drift.
All of a sudden we hear the roar of engines, and tires screaming all over the place. Suddenly 4 cars were on the track, tires squeling (spelling) like crazy creating a wall of smoke from each car. These guys were just cutting it up so hard. All of our hearts were pounding with excitement. The guys from japan were practicing and they were awesome. They were swinging it so close to the walls, to each other etc. A lot of us were just starting out back then. One of the best guys I knew back then was Alex Pfiefer. Alex lived locally to me so we'd hang out sometimes and when we'd go to the track our girlfriends at that time would hang together too. I think he took 3rd at that event for the US drivers which was pretty good since he had an underpowered hachi.
Well here is the video. The first car is my 944 sadly drifting. After that the excitement begins. This still is one of the best events I've ever gone to. The Japanese drivers were getting so close to the crowd that the crowd was touching the cars with their hands. There was one time when our camera guy Paris had to jump back about 3 feet otherwise he would have been smacked. That's toward the end of the video. Enjoy, this is about 36 minutes long.
