TOKYO NEWS: Nissan Reveals Juicy Tidbits About 2007 GT-R Supercar
Date Posted 10-18-2005
TOKYO — Shiro Nakamura, head of design at Nissan Motor, says the company's breathtaking GT-R Proto concept, unveiled Wednesday at the auto show here, is "80 to 90 percent" close to the vehicle design that will be produced in 2007.
While the nose of the GT-R Proto is more conceptual in nature, Nakamura said the car's greenhouse, side profile and rear end, especially the retro-style round taillamps, are "very close" to the final design.
Carlos Tavares, Nissan's executive vice president of product planning, wouldn't reveal many more details of the next-generation GT-R.
"There are a lot of expectations," he said. "We don't want to disappoint our fans."
Tavares no doubt was referring to the hordes of enthusiasts who've begged Nissan over the years to market its legendary Skyline GT-R away from home. The new GT-R will be the first in the series to be exported to other markets. The car will be launched in Japan and will go on sale soon afterward in Europe and North America, Tavares said.
The GT-R will have the same powertrain in all markets, he said. Sources tell Inside Line that Nissan is considering a twin-turbocharged, 3.7-liter V6 that produces about 450 horsepower and drives all four wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox.
The production version of the GT-R is expected to debut at the 2007 Tokyo show.
What this means to you: Hungry fans of the Nissan GT-R will have to wait two more years to test-drive the first production model.

Pros:
Reasonable price for a skyline
Cons:
Should be a V-8...too much power for a V-6
Skylines are like fable creatures of the import world. Very rare yet greatly appreciated. Considering the price, engine size, and vehicles physical aspects, I think it would drop the skylines "value" on the street. I would recommend the product IF it was a V-8 and set at a higher price.

ok itll get about 450 hp outta that tt v6... not 300. ive seen minivans with 300 >.< geez
i like the styling on this ... of course theyll tone it down a smidge for the production model so i think it will be a very nice car that will give european luxury sports cars a run for its money.

Pros:

V6 450 AWD
Cons:
overly front heavy
I think a car thats a V6 and has 450 hp is great mainly all nissan skylines are AWD some are FF I just hope the took out the weak point of a GT-R.
Which is the car is overly front heavy.Even with tuned breaks, on a down hill the breaks will fail.

Pros:
new generation with a twin turbo and a V6 is a plus
Cons:
V8 would have been nice but with the gas prices where better off
I find the new Skyline to be impresive from the new generation body styling to the V6 twin turbo. Eventhough it does have a V6 the potential that can be pulled from that engine is incredible. If you can take a honda 2.0L and have it pushing 600 hp on a single turbo what do you think a V6 twin turbo can do especially if it's tuned by Nismo. Oh yea and for the moron who thinks only 300hp can be pulled from that car, go find a whole to crawl into cause you don't know anything about cars considering the fact it is probally at 250hp stock maybe more...

Pros:
its a great looking car overall.
Cons:
i just dont like the lihgts they should keep it different from the other nissan cars make it original. like the skyline was.
if they changed the lights made it look kinda similar to what the original skyline light instead of having the 350 z lights, like i said ORIGINAL. OVERAL THE CAR FROM BEHIND LOOKS GREAT AND THE SIDE VIEW.
